Assistant Engineer in the Engineering Department

Location: Southampton

GO_modular is looking for a CAD Technician for the Engineering Department to be a part of a factory-based team at our offices in Totton, Southampton. 

You will be under the leadership of our production specialist engineers and will contribute towards maximising productivity within the factory. 


Role: 

  • Provide accurate, detailed and scale drawings for manufacturing, assembly and installation of modular units for houses 

  • To help create high quality 2D and 3D technical drawings for all stages, of all projects 

  • Offer technical support and advice to the factory floor like carpenters, electricians & plumbers 

  • Work with internal and external designers to understand and apply conditions and approvals 

  • Checking material sizes and quantities for procurement Ensure smooth liaison between internal and external clients, architects, engineers and designers 

  • Aid in estimating costs and apply knowledge of materials and engineering principles to check the feasibility of new potential projects 

  • Ensure compliance with industry and health & safety standards and protocols Risk management including identifying potential solutions to eliminate or reduce risks during production 


Ideal Candidate: 

This position will suit an accomplished CAD technician or structure designer keen to progress their career and skills within a Modular Manufacturer, who build bespoke, Residential & Commercial projects in the South of England. 


  • Experience in off-site construction or timber framed design is desirable 

  • A sound knowledge of computer-aided design & software and engineering design principles 

  • Good degree of mathematical mind set desired 

  • Computer literate with good working knowledge of AutoCAD, Autodesk Architectural, CATIA, PRO/Engineer or similar and knowledge of SEMA would be a distinct advantage 

  • Ability to measure drawings and help to develop bills of quantities 

  • An understanding of manufacturing processes and construction methods 

  • Can prioritise and plan effectively, and have good overall time management skills

  • The ability to meet deadlines 

  • Good numeracy skills 

  • The ability to get on well with others and be able to calmly and effectively analyse problems as they arise and then quickly reach the right decisions as part of a team is vital 

  • The willingness to learn and the will and desire to reach the highest standards, together with a positive attitude are essential
