A modular home revolution is on its way. Glossy, modular built, normal looking family homes are popping up around the country in response to the housing crisis. But to get there just needs a change in attitude towards this new take on an old idea.

In what is believed to be a first for off-site construction, bespoke volumetric units have been installed within the shell of an existing building. 

Working with manufacturer Go Modular Technologies, the project saw pre-built apartments specially made to fit inside the shell of an existing building on Park Street before being craned onto the roof.

Bespoke pre-built homes have been craned into an existing building on one of Bristol’s busiest streets in a UK-first that has also brought so-called modular construction back into focus as a way of helping to solve the city’s housing crisis.

Urban Creation is behind a pioneering approach to construction that is seeing bespoke, pre-built apartments craned into an existing building on one of Bristol’s most famous thoroughfares.

The site – 50 Park Street – was formerly a nightclub but was vacant and dilapidated when Urban Creation bought it in in 2018.

GO_modular has signed a ten-year lease on a 20,874 sq ft industrial warehouse with commercial property consultancy Vail Williams.   

Vail Williams’ transactional team in the Solent acted for the private landlord of the refurbished unit, which has three loading doors and a large secure yard.

Materials will be supplied to the offsite factory, at Calmore Industrial Estate with manufactured modules then transported to sites and installed.

A UK pioneer in the modular construction of homes is setting up its first customised factory near Southampton as the innovator looks to disrupt the traditional house-building market.

GO_modular aims to deliver 300-plus units from the factory, with plans to expand via a factory franchising model.
