Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled 1st Fix Carpenter to join our modular construction team. This role focuses on the structural phase of factory-based builds, installing core timber elements before final finishes. The successful candidate will work within a controlled factory environment, contributing to high-quality, efficient off-site construction processes.
Key Responsibilities
Interpret and work from technical drawings, specifications, and cutting lists
Install structural timber components including:
Floor joists and decking systems
Wall framing and stud partitions
Roof trusses and structural supports
Fit door linings, window frames, and stair carcasses
Install sheathing, plywood, and structural boards
Ensure all work meets required tolerances and quality standards
Use hand and power tools safely and efficiently
Collaborate with other trades (e.g., electricians, plumbers) during early-stage installations
Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work area in line with health & safety regulations
Identify and report defects or inconsistencies in materials or drawings
Requirements
Proven experience as a 1st Fix Carpenter (ideally in modular/off-site construction)
Strong understanding of timber frame construction methods
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings accurately
Competence with a wide range of carpentry tools and machinery
Knowledge of health & safety standards in a factory or construction environment
Good attention to detail and ability to meet production targets
